“If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him liar, and His word is not in us. My little children these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone does sin we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the whole world.” 1John1:10-1John2:2
Wow, these couple verses hold so much truth it is ridiculous. There probably would be about 50% less denominations in the world if they just looked at these verses…
V10 When we say we have not sinned, we are actually calling God a liar! He points at a sin in your life and says “thats wrong,” and our response is “nope, You are lying.” Just think of that idea. It eliminates the possibility that anyone is perfect. The idea that when we come to Christ we will all of a sudden never sin. John is talking to believers (notice he says “WE”). We, as Christians, aren’t perfect.
V1 If we do sin (because we will) there is an answer: Christ. He is our Advocate, saying “yea I already paid the penalty for that.” God doesnt want us to drown in our own shame and guilt, He wants us to pick up and move on. Focus on the walk, the walking in the light we experience when accomplishing His plan for our lives.
V2 The WORLD’S sins. Christ died for every single sin ever committed. Not just those who He chose to come to Him, every single human. We call it AMAZING GRACE for a reason. If it is limited to a certain group of people, then its not that amazing. And then of course comes the argument of why did god choose those specific people… which we will discuss in the future.
You do sin. When God points it out, don’t call Him a liar, agree with Him and come back to Him. You always can come back because He is our Advocate. Pick up and move on. There is and entire world of sinners our there that need to learn about God’s grace. No verse in the entire Bible shows a more clear statement that Christ died for ALL. So when you sin, realize that he paid for all sins and not to question whether or not you really are chosen. Have confidence that your position in the family of God is secure.
