“If we say we have fellowship with Him and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.” 1John1:6
Think of how a relationship starts. We have guys pretending to be tougher, smarter, and smoother than they are, while the ladies on the other hand put up their front as well. They both enter a relationship of who they pretend they actually are. It is not a malicious deceit as much as it is a hopeful want. This is who I WANT to be, and who I WANT you to see me as. The truth is, we can only play make believe for so long. These appearances yield to the reality of who we actually based on what we practice.
This is even more obvious among the body of Christ. We all pretend to be more Holy, more spiritual than what we are. We walk in the darkness thinking we are in the light. We live in darkness pretending we have it all right. We even go to the extent of telling everyone how they should live and what they should do, quoting scriptures to set them straight.
John here is warning the “Children” in the faith to be able to recognize themselves as possible liars of where they are spiritually, and in turn, beware of listening to those who claim to know it all, yet their life screams contrary.
Are you in the darkness? Are you pretending to live in the light? Thats an assessment you need to make, because your friends and family can already see by your life where you reside.
